What types of matters does Juel fund?
Juel funds the following types of legal matters in Australia:

- Wills and estate matters, including funding for beneficiaries and executors
Anything outside of these categories is generally not funded.
Who can apply for Juel funding?
Juel provides funding to both individuals and businesses based in Australia who are involved in one of the supported legal matter types.
Do I need a lawyer to apply?
Yes. You need to have a lawyer representing you to be eligible for funding. If you don’t yet have a lawyer, Juel can help guide you on next steps, but cannot formally recommend one.
Can businesses apply for funding?
Yes. Juel supports business-related litigation and disputes, including matters such as contract disputes, debt recovery, and other commercial proceedings.
What makes an application more likely to be approved?
Applications are typically stronger where there is a clear legal claim or defence and a meaningful potential outcome. The strength of the legal matter and the expected value of the outcome are key considerations.
Why might an application be declined?
Common reasons include:
- the funding required is below the minimum threshold (typically $20,000)
- the legal matter does not have sufficient strength or viability
- the matter falls outside of the types Juel supports
- and the fin capacity of a borrower – or ir the fin profile of a borrower falls below a minimum criteria
Can I enquire before speaking to my lawyer?
Yes. You can make a confidential enquiry at any time. Juel will ultimately need to work with your lawyer to assess the matter, but an initial conversation can happen first.

How does the Juel funding process work?
It begins with a simple enquiry and a personal phone call to understand your situation. From there, Juel works with you and your lawyer to build a clear picture of your matter.
If funding is suitable, a loan is structured around your needs, supporting your legal costs and, where appropriate, your living or business expenses as your matter progresses.
What happens after I submit an enquiry?
After your enquiry:
- Juel will speak with you to understand your situation
- With your consent, Juel will liaise with your lawyer
- The matter is reviewed for suitability
- If appropriate, you are invited to proceed with a formal application
This is a guided process – you’re supported at each step.
How long does approval take?
Timeframes depend on how quickly information is provided by you and your lawyer. In many cases, decisions can be made within a few days once all required details are available.
How quickly are funds available after approval?
Funding is typically available within a few days (often 2–5 days), depending on the structure of the loan and any required documentation or security.
Can funding be used for past legal costs?
Yes. In some cases, funding can be used to cover existing legal costs or debts, provided there is sufficient capacity within the loan structure.
How are funds provided?
Funding can be structured in different ways depending on your needs:
- legal fees are paid progressively to your lawyer
- living or business expenses may be provided either as a lump sum or in staged drawdowns over time
Can funding be increased later?
In some cases, additional funding may be available if your circumstances change and the matter continues to meet lending criteria.
Costs & Repayment
How much can I borrow?
The minimum loan amount is typically $20,000. There is no fixed maximum, as funding is based on the strength and value of your legal matter and the available security.
How are fees and interest charged?
Fees and interest are applied only to the funds that are actually drawn down, not the total approved amount. The exact structure depends on your individual loan and will be clearly explained before proceeding.
When do I repay the loan?
Repayment is generally made from the proceeds of your legal matter, such as a settlement or judgment. The structure is designed to align with the outcome of your case.
What happens if my case is unsuccessful?
Juel loans are full recourse loans. This means you are still responsible for repaying the loan regardless of the outcome of your case. This will be clearly explained so you can make an informed decision.
Are there any hidden fees?
No. All fees, charges and terms are disclosed upfront. Juel is transparent about costs so you understand exactly what you are agreeing to.
Can I repay early?
Yes. Early repayment may be possible depending on your situation and will be outlined in your loan terms.
Security & Credit
What security is required?
Most Juel loans are secured against your legal matter. Additional security may include:
- a letter undertakings with you and your solicitor (explanation of undertakings) an undertaking with your solicitor – for the proceed to be settled to a controlled account – pay
- PPSR registration – over the action? – definition in here – security over your legal action on the PPSR
- real property – supporting security may be required (EG: mortgage, caveats over real property, charges over business assets or shares

Is there a credit check for every application?
we don;t credit check during the enquiry. only during application.
Once we’ve made an initial screen and determined to fit out policy, on receipt of our application we will conduct a credit check. Yes. All applications include a credit assessment as part of the process. A credit enquiry is conducted as part of the approval process. This may appear on your credit file as an enquiry.

Why does Juel need to work with my lawyer?
Your lawyer plays a key role in providing information about your matter. Juel relies on your lawyer’s expertise when assessing suitability and structuring the loan.

Is Juel regulated?
Yes. Juel operates as a licensed credit provider in Australia. All lending is subject to regulatory requirements, lending criteria, and formal approval processes.
How is my information handled?
Your information is handled with strict confidentiality and in line with Australian privacy laws. Details are only shared where necessary to assess your application, including with your lawyer (with your consent).
What if I have a complaint or concern?
Juel has a formal complaints process and is subject to external dispute resolution frameworks in Australia. Details can be provided if needed.
